Ospreys are found in a water biome. They love shorelines and waterways, because their diet is primarily fish.{1} Ospreys hunt by spotting their prey from the air and then diving into the water's surface from some 30 to 100 feet (9 to 30 meters) up. Ospreys often eat lake fish, they are expert fishers. Ospreys nest in trees near a body of water, so they can be close to their food. They are very adaptable and will live in most places in North America and Europe as long as there are fish near by. Ospreys have been very protected by humans since they were threatened by the pesticide DDT. Many bird refuges have set up nests for the once endangered birds. Ospreys live in nests constructed from sticks. The nests are often found on top dead trees. They also have been know to nest in man-made structures such as powerline towers, light poles, channel markers, pilings, fence posts, stone pillars, chimneys, duck blinds or to simply nest on the ground, if ground predators and human disturbance do not disturb them.
On the waters coast, osprey nests are usually close to, if not over, water. However on inland lakes and waterways nests are usually more distant.
